How To Make Kilt Pin : Loopy Lapis
To make: -
1. Cut the Beadalon into 1 x 30cm, 1 x 20cm and 1 x 10cm lengths. Slip a crimp bead onto the 30cm length then pass it through one of the outside loop on the kilt pin, pass the end back through the crimp bead a short way (this end will be hidden by the first couple of beads threaded) and squash the crimp bead using chain nosed pliers.
2. Thread a 4mm lapis, a 2.5mm spacer, a 6mm lapis, a 4mm Xilion, a 6mm lapis and a 2.5mm spacer. Repeatthis sequence four more times, then add a 4mm lapis and a crimp bead. Pass the end through the other outside loop on the kilt pin and back through the crimp and the last couple of beads threaded. Pull through any excess (but don't pull the Beadalon through the crimp too tightly as this will make the loops too rigid, and space needs to be allowed to add the decorative crimp cover), squash the crimp bead and trim the Beadalon.
3. Using the same technique, attach the 20cm length of Beadalon to the second from outside loop on the kilt pin. Thread a 4mm Xilion, a 6mm Lapis, a stardust and a 6mm lapis. Repeat this sequence two more times, then add a 4mm Xilion and a crimp bead. Secure the Beadalon to the other second from outside loop on the kilt pin as in step 2.
4. Using the same technique attach the 10cm length to the third from outside loop and thread a 4mm lapis, a 4mm Xilion, a 4mm lapis, a 2.5mm spacer, a 4mm lapis, a 4mm Xilion, a 4mm lapis and a crimp bead.Secure the Beadalon to the other third from outside loop on the kilt pin as in step 2.
5. Slip the 6mm Xilion onto the head pin. Bend pin over, close to the bead, by 90 degrees using chain nosed pliers. Trim to 7mm using side cutter pliers and roll into a loop using round nosed pliers, slipping it onto the centre loop on the kilt pin before fully closing.
6. Cut a 24 link length of extension chain and a 32 link length of medium curb chain. Slightly open a jump ring by gripping with two pairs of pliers and sliding the edges away from each other. Slip on the last link of both the chains and hook the jump onto one of the outside loops of the kilt pin. Close jump by sliding the edges back together again. Attach the other ends of the chains to the other outside loop in the same way.
7. Cut a 12 link length of extension chain and a 17 link length of medium curb chain. Attach them to the second from outside loops as in step 6.
8. Slip a crimp cover onto each of the squashed crimp beads and gently squeeze each one shut using chain nosed pliers.
